Vienna Woods Free Jumping Day – Thursday 20th May 2010

Hi everyone, We will be having a "free jumping" day at our property, "Vienna Woods" on Thursday 20th May 2010.  I have had many requests recently to help with free jumping horses, both young and experienced, and therefore have decided the best way is to have free jumping days where anyone who is interested can bring there horse(s) along. We will continue to run them if enough people are interested. Why free jump? - train young horses to jump without the inteference of the rider. Young horses are much more willing and confident when jumping     under saddle if they have free jumped prior. - can provide an indication of potential jumping talent of young horses. - is mentally stimulating for all levels of horses & disciplines, and great gymnastic training and exercise. - a free jumping video is useful when selling horses for all disciplines. Typically 15 - 20 minutes is sufficient, with prior warm up on the lunge. Please indicate your interest ASAP as positions are already filling up, and is on a first come,  first serve basis. Cost: $20 per horse. Please email me, call or txt on 0419 851 891. [youtube id="rB5_9MWK-HU&hl=en&fs=1&" width="628" height="353"]

2010 Grand National – Sweep Stake Kit

Info

Published: April 8, 2010 | By Linda

Tagged as: ,,,,

As with last year (and the year before) we realised pretty late in the day that the Grand National was just about to happen and panicked about whether or not we'd be able to do a sweep in our tiny little office between the three of us! A lot of you, like us will be looking for a Grand National Sweepstake Kit for this reason today - for the 2010 Grand National - to get as many names into the hat as possible before we all have to buy an extra ticket... In any case, there are lots of sweepstake kits out there (I remember doing them in felt tip pen when we were kids though - could be fun if you have any time!) and you can get hold of a free one with the link below, that can be printed out and played in the good old fashioned way. Free Grand National 2010 Sweepstake Kit [1]. Every year's Aintree meeting seems to come around faster than the last: it must be a sign of age or something. The Horse Next Door

The Horse Next Door

[1]I've recently had a nice offer to ride and train a very well bred, and exceptionally talented young showjumping horse.  Normally for a horse of this calibre, you would firstly have to travel to the other side of the world, and then mortgage your house, or find a very wealthy owner to fund the purchase. This horse however, was born and bred in Australia, albeit with imported semen.  As a coach and trainer, and regular competitor, I constantly find that many equestrians stereotype certain qualities in a performance horse, and that this quality can only be found either interstate, or overseas. When most people are looking for horses to purchase in Australia, you'll find they normally looking across the border, or if they are looking for an international quality horse, they will search overseas, normally in Europe or the USA. There are so many horses in Australia, and so many with exceptional qualities, many I believe with international potential, right here in our backyard. Not only can you still find the brilliant freaky little thouroughbred that has a heart so big it threatens to jump out of its chest, but there are also a new wave of breeders that are utilising technology and importing some of the best semen in the world and crossing it with Australian mares, many of whom the Europeans and Americas would love to use themselves. Somewhere in a paddock near you, is a muddy, long haired feral looking horse that might just be a freak, and it'll probably only cost you $500.  If you have a little more to spend, do a bit of local research and I'm sure you'll find a breeder who has just what you are looking for. Horse people are the same all over the world, some with more knowledge than others, but overwhelmingly they are obsessively passionate about their sport. Next time you're in the market for a new horse, do your research locally first, you might just find your next superstar, and might not have to mortgage your house to do it! Rolf-Göran Bengtsson Wins Last Qualifying Leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping series at Hertogenbosch

Sweden's Rolf-Goran Bengtsson won the last qualifying leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping series at 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands by a small margin against Ireland's Jessica Kuerten. The 13-fence course designed by Louis Konickx allowed 16 through to the second-round jump-off which turned into a race against the clock. [caption id="attachment_1543" align="aligncenter" width="480" caption="Rolf-Goran Bengtsson and Casall La Silla Win the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping at Hertogenbosch. Photo: Kit Houghton"] [1][/caption] The result has not earned the Bengtsson a starting spot in the final in Switzerland as he is lying 24th on the series table - only the top-20 make it through. Jessica Kuerten is consequently favourite to take the title in Switzerland with a massive 90 points, heading the Western European League table with a nine-point advantage over next-best rider, Germany's Marco Kutscher. Bengtsson said of the competition: I watched Jessica's ride on the screen and thought it was impossible to beat a horse so sensationally fast... I knew it would be difficult to make the same seven strides from fence one to fence two but I thought I'd try - it was very long, but we made it - my horse has a long, slow canter so he is difficult to adjust and my job was to stay focused and to keep him jumping off that long stride, and then I got a great shot to the last and that was it! The Netherlands' Edward Gal and stallion Moorlands Totilas took the 25th anniversary FEI World Cup™ Dressage title in Hertogenbosch on 27th March 2010. The 40 year old rider clinched the trophy for The Netherlands for the tenth time with a score of 89.80%. Gal said: When I came into the arena I thought it could be better - and it was! ...I could feel it was going to be better, and in the middle of the test I started to breathe again and it was much more relaxed. I know he's special and he deserves to win, and on Thursday I was so upset for him and so surprised when he was tense because he's not usually like that.  The thing about him is that he has so much power, and sometimes he can use it against you.  Today he worked with me instead and I am very, very happy!
